Why does my deck move every spring?
Usually because the footings aren't below the frost line. When the ground freezes it lifts shallow posts, then they settle again in spring. The fix is new footings deep enough to stay below the frost.
Do I need a permit for a deck in Orleans?
Orleans is part of the City of Ottawa, so the same rules apply: decks more than 60 cm (about 2 ft) above the ground generally need a building permit, and so do most covered decks. We prepare the drawings and apply for you.
