Two-tier cedar deck with built-in planters
A two-level cedar deck with wide stairs and built-in planters, turning a sloped yard into separate spaces for dining and play.
The project
Two levels, one sloped yard.
The yard dropped away from the house, and a single deck would have been either too high or too small. The homeowners wanted space to eat, relax and keep an eye on the kids.
We designed two levels: an upper deck off the house for dining and a lower deck closer to the lawn for lounging. Every footing sits below the frost line, and wide cedar stairs connect the levels.
Built-in cedar planters soften the edges and add greenery right on the deck.
