Covered cedar deck with glass railing
An outdoor room you can use from April to November: cedar boards, a pot-lit cedar ceiling and glass railing that keeps the view wide open.
The project
A deck that works rain or shine.
The homeowners wanted somewhere to sit outside without worrying about sun or rain, and without blocking the view of their backyard trees.
We framed a raised cedar deck on frost-proof footings, then built a gabled roof with a tongue-and-groove cedar ceiling and recessed pot lights. Square cedar posts carry the roof, and black-framed glass panels run between them so nothing gets in the way of the view.
Wide cedar stairs lead down to the yard, and the cedar skirting hides the frame for a clean, finished look all the way around.
